We have a new special project volunteer group — the Houston Association of the American Sewing Guild.

The volunteers made blankets for our oncology patients at Ben Taub General Hospital for the Compassionate Care Project for the terminally ill. They also made “no-ouch” pouches for our breast cancer patients.

The women delivered their blankets to Ben Taub on June 17. To date, they have hand-sewn and donated more than 50 blankets, some with words of hope like “Love, Faith and Hope” stitched on them.

They also donated 50 “no-ouch” pouches, which drape on a woman’s arm as a purse, and are filled with soft microfiber. The pouch cushions the area between the arm and surgery site and allows the arm to hang naturally at the side.

We are excited to welcome the Houston Association of the American Sewing Guild as volunteers.
